Sparrow’s Log:

Well, well, well… Where are we? Stuck in that world where there are not enough hours in the day. And where Emma is the spaciest space cadet I’ve ever known and forgets the camera 2 days IN A ROW!!! A true embarrassment to the blog-o-sphere. Jeez. Ah well, I’m signing in now at least. Today we had Sasha, Lulu, Jojo, Weisz, Derby and Anna. Sasha is allowed to sit in the front passenger seat with me again because she was just too depressed about having to sit int he back with the riff raff. Emma couldn’t bear it. Truth is, the only time I mind sharing my throne with a giant leggy super model blond Labrador is when she gets all bouncy close to the park. Then I fear for my safety and jump to Emma to escape those large paws. Most of the time I really like sharing with Sashi – she’s warm and steady and makes me feel less like I am responsible for everyone when Emma gets out of the car to get or drop-off a dog. She’s also really good at helping Emma clean up any lunch that may have spilled or not want to be eaten. Lulu and Weisz went at it in the car again as usual and played so hard Lulu’s rain jacket fell off. This has happened quite a few times before… Usually Lu manages to wiggle out of the whole thing but today it stayed around her neck like a bib. It was very funny to look back and see her trying to wrestle with  giant cape-like bib! Emma fixed it when we got out at Derby’s house but she’s beginning to thin she’d better just put Lulu’s clothes on when we get to the park. Joj was a sweet and silent passenger as usual. SUPER excited to get in the car and GO GO GO. He is very sad on the way home because he really does not want to have to get out of the car and sit at home all by himself. He’s not quite sure why his mom can’t pick him up at Emma’s house so he never has to stop hanging out. Jo found a special rock as usual at the water today but today when we left the lake he actually carried it through the two sets of gates and part way down the first corridor. That’s a first. Must have been a really special one. Derby and Emma have a new routine – Derby has a special toy, the big red cuz. It’s hers hers hers and her most important job is to keep it in her mouth and take care of it at all times. As long as she has the cuz, her play stays gentle and Emma-focused. It also means she does a lot more fetching because she’ll drop it for Emma to toss. Yay! More leg stretching! It was good to see Anna today as she’s been out on hiatus. Weisz was DELIGHTED when she go tin the car because she came a lot when he was a little tiny pup and just starting his dog park days and he remembers her fondly. She taught him how to wrestle! And now he’s finally big enough to hold his own with her. Sort of. She can still roll him around but he loves it and always wants more :) Lulu was quite jealous though when Anna got in the car and gave those 2 an earful the WHOLE time they were playing. Not once we were outside though. Then she decided she had to have the chuck-it and began doing amazing aerial moves to try an grab it from Emma’s hands. I wish there’d been a video camera. She also plunged into the lake with jacket on of course. She just can’t help herself :) All in all it was a good day. Quite wet and muddy but not too cold. Everybody had to have a hose down except Lulu. (Emma didn’t want her to get chilled.) Weisz was indignant, Jojo played hard to get and Anna protested from a mile away but in the end we all got the mud washed from our bellies. Well, me and Sasha plunged right into it. We LOVE the hose. That’s our thing. Just can’t understand why they other dogs think it’s so awful. I’m thinking of teaching a course on Hose Appreciation…. Sasha can be my assistant.

Forgive my scarceness of words of late, Dear Readers. Emma is bogarting the computer whenever we are not in the park due to some major school deadline she keeps mumbling about. What with a few other major life things going on simultaneously, the hours of the day are gone before we know it. Remember you can always ask us if you have a specific question about how your special Doodlebug did on any given day!

Today was a super fun and easy day, just me, Emma, Lulu and Weisz. That’s pretty good company in my book. Lulu and Weisz were ecstatic to have so much one on one time and managed to make a few new bestfriends each in our time there. Flip hung out with us the whole time too which was nice because it meant I got to have my bestfriend around :)

Sparrow’s Log:

Today we had Myles, Jojo, Layla and Ciel. Layla and Ciel, being the only pups, bonded well which is great as they have quite a few similarities in their personalities and play styles. They ran like the wind when we first got there, around and around the field. Me and Jojo did our best to referee them. Myles did commentary. Myles also took this opportunity to climb upon one of the little mounds all by himself which made all the other dogs want to get up there too. Everybody chased the big red ball and then chases whomever got the big red ball in their mouth. Jojo went rock hunting at the lake again. He always finds the most special rock and needs Emma to come admire it and toss it for him. He spends some time in the mulch chewing on it then he’s ready to let it go. We’re not sure how great it is for his teeth but it makes him SO happy… Layla got lots of compliments on her super hero jacket even when it got all muddy!

Sparrow’s Log:

Let’s see, where are we? Not quite to next year but somehow it doesn’t feel like this year either… More like this last couple weeks of December is its own time entirely, it’s own little month, like the District of Columbia is its own little state. Anyway, my point is the days have been melding together and I’m a bit backlogged in the blog department. To catch us up I’ll write about the weekend and yesterday all in one!

Emma and I spent Christmas at Derby’s house while her parents were out of town and had a great time. She has some really comfortable dog beds and a fire place and a rug perfect for scratching my belly. And there were bones. A very nice getaway. We had some Greenlake adventures and on Sunday hit the highway with our buddies and went to Tiger Mountain. That was AWESOME! Been awhile since we made it out of the city and everybody needed it, dogs and people alike. It was me, Derby, Ringo, Bouncer and Tuscan. Oh, and Emma and Bob – we needed them to drive us there. Derby has an enormous crush on Bouncer and followed his every move. Pretty cute.

Yesterday me, Derby, Weisz and Lulu went to Golden Gardens because the car got a flat tire and we needed to stick close to Ballard where it was getting fixed. The park was a bit of a mud pit but everybody got some good leg stretching and playing in. Weisz was the star of the show – getting Lulu and Derby to chase him over and over again AND joining in the other packs as if he’d known them his whole life. (Turns out one of the dogs was actually his next door neighbor so technically he had known him most of his life.) Lulu developed this crazed obsession for the chuck-it. No other toy would do. Emma could make her spin in circles and do little dances just by moving the chuck-it this way and that. Finally she just let Lulu have it and then Weisz wanted it and then there were some mighty chase games. Derby did really well playing with some dogs she didn’t know – chasing them and wrestling without going into her “too much” zone. She seemed very proud of herself whenever she came to check in with Emma and was told what a good job she was doing. She’s developing a distinct taste in men, Derby is, she likes the beefy, handsome, muscle-bound dogs that ripple and pulse even when standing still. Bouncer Sunday and this other big dude Monday. Very sweet.
